Lakeside Alliance Postpones Monday Toco Hill Meeting

The group studying cityhood in the area plans to reschedule when it finds a larger venue.

The Lakeside City Alliance has postponed its Monday meeting at Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Toco Hill so it can find a larger venue, the group said Friday.

The alliance wants to avoid the oversized crowd at a similar meeting at Tucker Middle School last week the bled from the packed cafeteria into the hallway and concerned the fire marshall who turned away more than 100 residents, said Susan Meyers, a member of the alliance's organizing committee.

The meeting was scheduled to feature Oliver Porter, a Sandy Springs resident who won an award for his expertise on the creation of efficient cities. Porter is the author of the book, Creating the New City of Sandy Springs: The 21st Century Paradigm.

The alliance is also rescheduling a fundraiser it planned to hold Tuesday at Marlow's Tavern in Northlake, said Mary Kay Woodworth, the alliance's chairman. It wants to reschedule the event until after spring break so more residents can attend, she said.
