LCA Announces 2 November Meetings

Nov. 4 meeting to feature discussion of crime issues.

Editor's Note: The second meeting has been moved to Tuesday, Nov. 12, and the release has been edited to reflect the change.

Announcement from the Lakeside City Alliance:

The Lakeside Community Alliance will hold two community meetings in November to hear neighborhood input on the pros and cons of cityhood as it awaits its feasibility study from the University of Georgia about the formation of a potential new city.

On Monday, Nov. 4, LCA will hold a meeting at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church at 2729 Lawrenceville Highway, Decatur, 30033. The meeting will be from 7 p.m to 8:30 p.m. The meeting is expected to focus on crime issues in that part of the potential city’s footprint and how other new cities have addressed crime issues with additional police and code enforcement.

Guest speakers will be Dunwoody Chief of Police Billy Grogan and former Dunwoody City Councilman Robert Wittenstein.

The second meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be at the church’s Carlos Community Center. The church is located at 2500 Clairmont Road, NE Atlanta, 30329.

LCA has held more than 65 community meetings over the past year with its volunteers to assemble community ideas about a potential new city.

If the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government reports the Lakeside concept is economically viable, the General Assembly will decide this winter whether to allow residents to vote next year on a Lakeside cityhood referendum.

The proposed city boundaries include a population of approximately 63,000, and the current map is based on community input. The current boundaries include North Druid Hills Road to the south, Interstate 85 to the west and the Embry Hills/Northcrest/Pleasantdale communities to the northeast.
