New County Workforce Development Office Attracts 700-Plus to Jobs Fair

The new office is located at 774 Jordan Lane in North Decatur.

Wednesday, June 12, marked the date the Workforce Development Jobs Fair opened its doors at 774 Jordan Lane in North Decatur with a ribbon-cutting ceremony helmed by DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis.

“This is a great day for all of DeKalb’s residents, and this celebration only reinforces our commitment to helping those who want to work,” Ellis said. “We are a resource-rich county that is open for business, and we are ready to help our citizens get jobs.”

The fair following the ribbon-cutting ceremony gave more than 700 job seekers the opportunity to meet with representatives from county departments and companies including CVS Caremark, Georgia Public Broadcasting and MARTA. Available positions were in the areas of customer service, construction, engineering, and sales.

Participants also were able to meet with industry professionals and gain advice about résumé writing and interviewing. In addition, participants could attend workshops in personal branding, networking and basic computer skills.

The Mobile Career Unit (aka The Jobs Bus) and MARTA’s Mobile Unit offered access to computers, printers and Workforce Development staff who provided additional professional advice.
