What Does Southwest DeKalb Know About New Cities?

A meeting in Southwest DeKalb held late last year has some citizens concerned that the city process is not "bottom up" as it should be. What do you think?

Have you wondered what the county and state politicians are telling the folks in South DeKalb about the city movement here in the Central part of the county?

Here's a video that shows you exactly what was on the handouts at a meeting held in September 2013 at S.W. DeKalb High School about the city process.

You will be shocked, as we were, to see that a City of Tucker wasn't even on the radar!  And, our rights to fight against annexation of our own property into any adjoining city that wants it was already taken away from us back in 2004.

The handouts indicate the franchise fees are a big part of where cities gain their revenue, along with certain property taxes and commercial taxes, especially on hotels / motels.

It was also interesting to hear the concerns in South DeKalb were mainly regarding the Lakeside City plans.  Most were discussing a city of Stonecrest or city of DeKalb as an alternative to protect the area from the effects of Lakeside City, not the other way around.

Early Lakeside City meetings held in January and February 2013 suggested that the organizers were concerned about a potential city of DeKalb and that was why they felt they needed to form a city of Lakeside.

Today, a new map was reportedly submitted to the state Senate, including even more of Tucker into a City of Lakeside than originally thought.  You can view it here:  http://tucker2014.com/regarding-sb-270.

Respectful discussion in the comments section is encouraged, but let's please keep it civilized.  Thanks!  And don't forget to like us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/SaveTuckerFromLakesideCity.
