Druid Hills Charter Cluster Petition to Be Ready Next Month

A petition to start a cluster of charter schools around Druid Hills High and its feeder schools could be ready by next month, Druid Hills Middle School said over the weekend.

A petition, created by the Druid Hills Charter Cluster, will be publicly available for viewing by mid-July, according to an email the middle school's PTSA sent to parents Sunday.

In addition to the high school, the Druid Hills Charter Cluster – a nonprofit organization – would include Druid Hills Middle School and Avondale, Briar Vista, Fernbank, Laurel Ridge and McLendon elementary schools.

Here's the rest of the PTSA's email:

The next meeting of the Organizing Committee will be Wednesday, June 26, 6:30 p.m. in the Durand Mill clubhouse at 1880 Grist Stone Court, Atlanta 30307.  The meetings are open to all, so please attend if you're so inclined.

Part of the appendices to the petition will be letters of support for the Druid Hills Charter Cluster from parents, teachers, community members, and neighborhood associations.  If you are willing, please take a few moments to put together a brief letter that includes: your name and address; your child's name. grade, and school; and a simple statement of support for the Druid Hills Charter Cluster.  The letter should be addressed to DeKalb County School District, Attention: Pat Copeland, 1701 Mountain Industrial Boulevard, Stone Mountain, GA 30083, but not sent.  Instead, please email the letter to druidhillscc@gmail.com and it will be included in the petition appendices.

Finally, the DHCC Organizing Committee has a few dates for everyone's calendar:

Tuesday, June 25, from 5-8pm is Spirit Night for the DHCC at Maddio's Pizza and Menchie's in Toco Hills.  Please join friends from all Druid Hills schools for a night of pizza, yogurt, and even face-painting!

Friday, July 19 will be a Food Truck Friday for the DHCC in the parking lot of Avondale First Baptist Church, 47 Covington Highway in Avondale Estates -- times to follow.

Tuesday, August 13 will be the final presentation and community vote at Druid Hills High School.  Additional information on presentation times, precise poll location and hours, and documents needed to establish eligibility to vote will be provided in the next few weeks.
