Druid Hills High Closes Annex

On Friday, Druid Hills High closed its annex at the Dekalb School of the Arts.

Druid Hills High closed its annex at the DeKalb School of the Arts on Friday.

In an email to the PTA, school Principal Mindee Adamson wrote:

On Friday, 8/24, the decision was made to close the annex. With Open House at both campuses the following week, I decided to make the announcement face to face starting with the annex on the 28th. Students at the annex were given letters on Wednesday, 8/29,  to take home to their parents in case they were not in attendance at Open House. Tonight, 8/30, I made the announcement to the main campus families who attended Open House.

It was important to me that the announcement was made face to face in case parents had questions or concerns. I am excited about the move and that all of our students will be under one roof. Many of the faculty members at the annex will be coming over to the main campus as well.

With the arrival of the teachers from the annex, schedules for some students may be adjusted to alleviate overcrowding in classes at the main campus.

The annex opened a year ago, as Avondale High closed and Druid Hills received nearly 400 freshmen and sophomores exercising their school choice option under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (formerly known as No Child Left Behind).

The Dekalb School of the Arts will remain open, a school official said.
