Leaving Home: Cultural Sensitivity and Core Identity of UUCA

The concept of “Leaving Home” as it relates to cultural sensitivity and the core identity of UUs will be explored through reading and discussing Rev. Dr. Thandeka’s book, Learning to be White: Money, Race and God in America. The course will use interactive exercises, writing assignments, and a “dream building” exercise about envisioning what a racial-free zone would look like for UUCA. The class will be a safe space to help define the ideas associated with going “beyond Eurocentrism” as a means to true inclusion and diversity in UUCA. Thandeka’s book will be available in the UUCA bookstore. In addition, a $5 materials fee will be payable to instructor Kim Green at the first class.
