Henderson Middle Robotics Team Tops High Schools to Win Awards

Team will represent DeKalb in state championships.

The Henderson Middle School Cougar Bots robotics team swept the top two awards at the First Tech Challenge (FTC) Block-Party Qualifier Championship this weekend. 

Competing against 15 high school teams, the Cougar Bots, the DeKalb School District's' first and only FTC robotics team, won first place in robot performance and won the most coveted Inspire Award. The team will represent DeKalb County Schools at the state championship in three weeks.

In FTC, teams design, build, and program their robots to compete in an alliance format, an announcement said. The Cougar Bots are coached by  Brett Ernst, Henderson's technology teacher.

The team consists of Tenzin Choerab, Abby Hunter, Nathan Reid and Zoe Weiss from Henderson Middle School and Clare Hunter and Norman Reid from Lakeside High School.

As part of the team's outreach to the community, the Cougar Bots have assisted multiple DeKalb First Lego League teams with programming and designing their Lego NXT robots, an announcement said.
