St. Pius Baseball to Play First Campus Home Game in History

The Golden Lions host Blessed Trinity at the Seaver Family Sports Complex on Monday.

The St. Pius baseball team will open up the 2012 season with the first-ever home game on campus in the 54-year history of the school. The Golden Lions will host Blessed Trinity, Monday, Feb. 20, at noon at the Seaver Family Sports Complex. Festivities begin at 11:30am and will feature free popcorn, peanuts and hot dogs.

St. Pius will be looking to make the state playoffs for the sixth consecutive year and the 12th time in 15 years. Head Coach J.T. Gilbert will be opening his ninth season at the helm. Across the field will be former head coach, Andy Harlin, now the head coach at Blessed Trinity.

"It's only fitting to have Coach Harlin be part of our first game on campus; Andy put Golden Lion baseball on the map," Gilbert said in a statement.

Completed in summer 2011, the complex is named for Jim and Susan Lauria Seaver, and their son Chris.  Jim and Susan Seaver are both 1964 graduates of St. Pius while the younger Seaver finished in 1995. The complex includes a synthetic turf baseball diamond as well as a synthetic turf multi-purpose field.  The two fields will be used by numerous groups within the school, including gym classes, athletic teams and marching band members. The baseball field is the only complete synthetic turf high school field in Georgia.
