The Last Supper at Sophia Academy

The school's fifth-graders re-enacted historical religious event yesterday.

Each year during Holy Week, fifth-grade students of re-enact the Passover meal that Jesus had with his disciples before going to the cross--traditionally known as The Last Supper.

On Monday, fifth-graders presented before their peers and families on a table complete with the elements of the Passover meal, including an egg, lamb, herbs, and unleavened bread. They took on the roles of disciples, each giving voice to Jesus' followers and telling the story of the last meal. The student portraying Jesus humbly washed the feet of a disciple before presenting the meal of the new covenant that represents Jesus' body and blood, given for salvation. The fifth grade class then demonstrated the meal, which in this case, was made up of pita bread and grape juice. After the re-enactment, all students and their families were invited to a reception bearing the ancient Mediterranean foods of Jesus' day.
