Two Students Win Prestigious Awards at Sophia Academy
Trey Butts received the Corrigan Family Scholarship given to students who displayed the most improvement.
At the Awards of Excellence Ceremony on Thursday, May 24, students of were recognized not only for academic achievement but for outstanding demonstration of character.
The Corrigan Family Scholarship, established in 2005 by an alumni parent to benefit a Sophia Academy student who has displayed the most significant improvement, was presented to one student among a host of nominations. This year’s recipient was third grader, Trey Butts, who was nominated by his teacher, Mrs. Mary Bucklen for his strides academically, emotionally, and socially. Regarding his growth, Mrs. Bucklen said, “Trey has made incredible improvements this year in all aspects of school life, and has worked very hard to meet the expectations of everyone here at Sophia Academy.” Butts was also recognized at the Character Trait Award Ceremony for his continuous display of “enthusiasm.”
The Eagle Award, presented to the middle school student who exemplifies the best of Christian character, was also given at the ceremony. The recipient was sixth-grader Jack Tansill, chosen for his character that demonstrates honesty, integrity, compassion, joy, and gratitude. “Jack’s faith keeps him grounded in peace and security that triumphs over situational stressors and communicates a trust in God,” wrote his nominators, who chose him unanimously as the recipient of this esteemed award. Tansill had been recognized at the Character Trait Award Ceremony for displaying “humility.”
