Take a Moment to Remember

Memorial Day message from State Representative Scott Holcomb

As you enjoy Memorial Day, please take a moment to remember those who, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, gave their last full measure of devotion for our nation.

I remember those with whom I served overseas during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  I miss them, wish they were still with us, and I pray for their families.

I think of my Dad and remember those with whom he served in Vietnam.  And I recall the one word he used to sum up his experience there: darkness.

Please join me in praying for and thanking all Americans around the globe who are in harms way, fighting against darkness, and working to keep us secure.  May they return home soon, and safely.

Very truly yours,

Hi Rep. Holcomb, thank you for contributing to our local Patch. We appreciate having the opportunity to hear from you. I am hoping you could advise me on an issue in Tucker regarding our property taxes. We are unincorporated DeKalb County. We have received our property taxes with extremely large drops in our property values in just 12 months time (nearly 60%). I suspect that the same errors that led to faulty data being acknowledged to the Mayor in Avondale is the same issue we have here. But, without a Mayor, who do we have to stand up for us? I am appealing my own assessment, of course, but if others do not do the same and then a tax hike is approved, my taxes will be over the top while others in the same size and style homes on the same street as mine will be paying much lower amounts. Who would we contact to review our situation as a whole? Is it a county commissioner, or perhaps your office? Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Cheryl, I'm well aware of this problem, and it is a county issue. I'd recommend that you try either CEO Ellis, Commissioner Stan Watson, or Commissioner Elaine Boyer. If you need help reaching any of them, please let me know. My email is scott@repscottholcomb.com. Take care, Scott
