Sophia Academy Track & Field Teams Place First in Ten Events

’s track and field teams competed in the Atlanta Private Athletic Conference finals on Wednesday, April 20.  Both teams performed well, taking home first place ribbons in 10 events. 

In the girls’ running events, Leela Mitchum won the 100M, Alicia Cantrell won the 200M, and Liza Beem finished first in the 800M.  In the running relays, the team of Caroline Christy, Tracy Walker, Leela Mitchum, and Alicia Cantrell won the 4 x 100M and Liza Beem, Sarah Berkowitz, Carter Hall, and Mary Pollock won the 4 x 400M.  In the girls’ field events, Tracy Walker placed first in the shot put and Caroline Christy won both the triple jump and discus.  In the boys’ events, Austin McKinney placed first in the discus and the team of Jack Meehan, Michael Nilan, Max Pimentel, and Yan Olea-Perez won the 4 x 400M relay.

 Sophia Academy encourages all students to develop their athletic ability. The school promotes athletic participation to improve teamwork, discipline the body and mind, and to bolster self-confidence.  During the course of the year, eighty percent of eligible students participate in after-school team sports or intramurals.
