DeKalb Football: Middle Schools Update

Middle school football season started Saturday.

The 2012 DeKalb County Schools middle school football season got underway on Saturday, Sept. 1 as 10 schools picked up victories to start 1-0.

Three of the games were thrillers to the end highlighted by Champion’s (1-0) 20-18 victory over Chapel Hill (0-1) at Avondale Stadium. Stephenson (1-0) pulled out a 14-8 win over Tucker (0-1) and Salem (1-0) upended McNair (0-1) by a score of 22-14.

The other seven games were all shutouts including Bethune (1-0) over Miller Grove (0-1) 28-0, Cedar Grove (1-0) over Columbia (0-1) 18-0, Chamblee (1-0) over Henderson (0-1) 16-0, Freedom (1-0) over Sequoyah (0-1) 48-0, Lithonia (1-0) over Renfroe (Decatur) 30-0, Peachtree (1-0) over Druid Hills (0-1) 28-0 and Stone Mountain (1-0) over Redan (0-1) 15-0.

Region 2 got off to the best start as Stephenson, Cedar Grove, Salem and Chamblee all picked up victories.

Region 2 looks to continue their success on Saturday, with four out of the five teams taking victories during Week 1 of the DeKalb County Schools middle school football season.

The group is preparing to continue that success in Week 2 as they wrap up non-region action.

The headline matchup features Region 2's Cedar Grove (1-0) against 2011 Trail to the Championship runner-up Bethune (1-0) from Region 1. The pair did not play in 2011 despite both reaching the semifinals of the Trail to the Championship. The game is set for Hallford Stadium at 9am.

Other Region 2 undefeated teams Stephenson, Salem and Chamblee face off with Region 4 foes on Saturday.

Stephenson (1-0) takes on Druid Hills (0-1) at Adams at 10:30am while Salem (1-0) meets Chapel Hill (0-1) in a 10:30am game at Hallford and Chamblee (1-0) takes on Miller Grove (0-1) in a game moved from North DeKalb to Avondale and set for a 1pm start.

Chamblee vs. Miller Grove, Avondale, 1 p.m.
Peachtree vs. Tucker, Avondale, 2:30 p.m.
