DeKalb Schools Football: Week Eleven Recap

Druid Hills beat Morrow, and Lakeside lost to North Atlanta over the weekend.

Druid Hills 21, Morrow 18
The Druid Hills Red Devils went on the road to Morrow and held on for a 21-18 Region 2-AAAAAA victory to put them in a position for a playoff berth with a win next weekend against Rockdale County.The Red Devils last and only state playoff appearance came in 1956.

MLK Jr. 24, Tucker 17
The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions stopped the Tucker Tigers on a fourth and seven play with 4:37 to play in the game on the way to a 24-17 win to capture the Region 6-AAAAA title.

The No. 2 ranked Lions remain undefeated at 9-0 overall and 8-0 in region play while the No. 5 ranked Tigers fell to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the region.

Monquavious Johnson had three touchdown passes as the Lions built a 24-10 lead with 3:18 to play in the third quarter. He connected with Marquis Polite-Bray for 42 yards in the second quarter and on a four-yard pass with 8:06 to play in the third. The third one for the 14 point lead came on a 43 yard pass and catch to Romello Shumake.

The Tigers answered on their next drive driving to the King 25 where Williams was pressured and stepped up to find Rivers in the middle of the field where he turned, broke a tackle at the six yard line and got into the end zone to cut the lead in half.

The Tigers were driving at their 46 and faced with a fourth and 7 when Williams was again flushed from the pocket, but unable to find a receiver was forced to run and was stopped two yards short of the first down.

The Lions took over with 4:37 to play and were able to run out the clock to seal the region championship.

The Tigers need a victory over Mays to seal at least a No. 3 seed for the state playoffs.

Stephenson 28, Mays 27
The Stephenson Jaguars (6-2) moved one step closer to the No. 2 seed in Region 6-AAAAA and a home playoff game with a tight 28-27 win over Mays
(5-4).

SW DeKalb 16, Miller Grove 7
The Southwest DeKalb Panthers (6-3) all but ended the Miller Grove Wolverines’ first ever playoff appearance with a 16-7 win on Saturday.

The Wolverines (6-3) needed a win to secure a playoff spot, but now would need a win over Martin Luther King and help from Dunwoody and Tucker.

Cedar Grove 47, Woodward Academy 14
Quarterback Jonathan McCrary accounted for five touchdowns as the Cedar Grove Saints routed No. 8 ranked Woodward Academy 47-14 in Region 6-AAA play to put them in a position for a home playoff game with a win against Blessed Trinity this coming week.

McCrary, who is moving the DeKalb County and Georgia career passing list, passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the game to lead the Saints. Cedar Grove took a 27-7 lead at the half behind an 81 yard run by Deion Sellers just before the half.

Columbia 27, Stone Mountain 6
The Columbia Eagles pulled away from a 6-6 first quarter tie for a 27-6 win over the Stone Mountain Pirates at Adams Stadium.

The win puts the Eagles in a Region 6-AAAA play-in game against Grady with the opportunity to reach the state playoffs.
