Lakeside Grad Makes First 'A' Finals of World Cup Kayaking Season

Tim Hornsby finished sixth in the Men's K1 200m A Final at the 2013 ICF Sprint World Cup No. 3 in Poland on Sunday.

Lakeside graduate and Olympic kayaker Tim Hornsby finished sixth Sunday in his third World Cup event this season.

Team USA sent the following update on his results:

Tim Hornsby (Atlanta, Ga.) finished 6th in the Men's K1 200m A Final Sunday with a time of 37.967, which was 1.324 seconds behind the first place finisher - 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Mark De Jonge of Canada. Hornsby, a 2012 Olympian, placed 2nd in his heat and 3rd in semifinal to reach the A Final, his first of the 2013 season.

His semifinal time of 37.722 was 1.580 seconds behind the race's first place finisher. Click HERE for the ICF's recap.

Hornsby was the only member of Team USA to compete at the third and final 2013 World Cup. Hornsby and the other U.S. paddlers will look toward the 2013 National Championships and World Championships in August.

"Its encouraging to see Tim making a World Cup A final. In the 3rd event of the year, it shows that he is moving in the right direction before the Worlds [Championships] in Duisburg," said U.S. Sprint Team Coach Shaun Caven.
