Lakeside Vikings Advance to Wrestling Championships

Lakeside faces Whitewater in the opening round Thursday.

The Lakeside Vikings advance to their first State Duals Championships in Macon beginning today, Thursday, after defeating the Dunwoody Wildcats 37-30 in the finals of Saturday's Area 6-AAAAA Duals Championships.

Coach Pete Carlson's Vikings had five wrestlers go undefeated (3-0) in the Area duals matches to aid the cause. Tyler Breeden (120), Nate Tousssaint (138), Josh Powell (145, all by pin fall), Alex La Rotta (195) and Devon White (182) all swept through the tournament unscathed.

LaRotta is 31-0 with 15 pins, including 30-0 in the 195 pound weight class, to lead the 23-9 Vikings this season. Tyler Breeden is 24-1 with 14 pins on the season including a 23-1 record in the 120 pound class while teammate Josh Powell is 28-2 with 14 pins while wrestling mostly in the 152 class with a 17-2 record.

Spencer Wilson has also compiled an impressive 26-4 record with 12 pins which includes a 22-3 record in the 126 class.

The Dunwoody Wildcats are led by 2013 113 pound class County and Area champion Sunny Sharma as they head to their first State Duals competition. Sharma finished fourth in the 113 class at the 2013 Traditional State Tournament.

Class AAAAA State Duals begin at 6:15 p.m. today. Lakeside faces Whitewater in the opening round while Coach Luke McSorely's Dunwoody squad takes on OLA.

Admission to the tournament is $7 today (Thursday) and $10 on Friday and Saturday with a tournament pass available for $24.
