Silverbacks Fall to Scorpions 3-0

San Antonio's defense and two goals from Pablo Campos proved too much for Atlanta on Saturday at Heroes Stadium.

The Atlanta Silverbacks (1-5-5) headed south Saturday to Heroes Stadium to try and get their second win of the season against the San Antonio Scorpions (6-4-1). The Scorpions went ahead early, scoring two goals in the first 35 minutes. San Antonio's league best defense would hunker down in the second half and keep the Silverbacks off the board while scoring a third goal to secure their victory.

The Silverbacks and the Scorpions could not get anything going till the 15th minute when Ciaran O'Brien whipped in a good ball from a free kick that was handled by Daryl Sattler. Soon after, the Scorpions turned up the pressure and had a few good chances but could not find the back of the net either.

San Antonio's high pressure paid off when they opened up the scoring in the 27th minute after Pablo Campos used his size to fend off Kohei Matsushita and scored back post for his fourth goal of the season. They wasted no time scoring again in the 35th minute when a Campos pass in side the box skipped by Shane Moroney's slide tackle and was finished by Walter Ramirez.

The Silverbacks showed life early in the second half, getting a few good chances but could not finish. O'Brien fired a long-distance shot in the 55th minute that curved just wide, testing Sattler. A few minutes later, Carr flew past the Scorpion defense but his pass was too log for a streaking Matt Horth.

Up two goals, the Scorpions slowed the pace down and allowed their league-leading defense to keep the Silverbacks off the board and secure a victory.

Campos scored his second of the game 82 minutes into the match to put the Scorpions up 3-0. With the Silverbacks pushing hard for a goal, Campos found himself one on one with Hunt and used a perfect spin move to get open and fire his shot past Daniel Illyes.

After the third goal the Silverbacks could not break the Scorpion defense, eventually falling 3-0. The Silverbacks will now return home for a two-match home stand starting Saturday, June 16 against the Carolina RailHawks, followed by a June 23 match against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
