St. Pius Athletes Receive Football Honors

Seven players were selected to the Region 5-AAA team, and four were chosen All-DeKalb County.

The football team had several student-athletes receive All-Region and All-Dekalb County honors earlier today. Seven players were selected to the Region 5-AAA team, and four were tabbed All-Dekalb County. Both teams are selected by the Dekalb County Football Coaches Association. In addition to the honors, another Golden Lion student-athlete has committed to play football in college.

Selected to the 5-AAA All-Region team were linebackers Joseph Crochet (Stone Mountain) and T. J. Holloman (Stone Mountain), center Ryan Holmes (Doraville), defensive back Geno Smith (Riverdale), defensive tackle Danny Sutherland (Lilburn), offensive guard Rocco Thomas (Lawrenceville) and quarterback Trey White (Atlanta). Crochet, Holloman, Smith and White were also selected to the All-Dekalb County football team as well. All seven student-athletes are members of the Class of 2012, which won a school record 42 games during its four years at St. Pius.Β 

In addition to the honors, Crochet recently committed to play football at The Citadel in South Carolina. Crochet will join fellow Golden Lion, White, at the Charleston, SC, school. Smith and Holloman are committed to the University of Alabama and University of South Carolina, respectively.

The Golden Lions completed the 2011 season Friday night, losing to Cairo in the quarterfinals of the Georgia High School Association AAA playoffs. St. Pius finished 12-1 and won the Region 5-AAA championship for the second time in three seasons.
