The St. Pius team won the top spot in the Powerade Fab 50 ranking compiled by ESPN's RISE magazine.

The boys soccer team has been named national champs in the Powerade Fab 50 ranking compiled by ESPN's RISE, which covers high school sports.

The team ended the season 20-0-1 and captured the AAA state championship for the second time in three seasons. Sophomore Tyler Alexander of Tucker tallied 18 goals this season to lead the Golden Lions, while senior goaltender Andrew Wolverton of Snellville recorded 13 shutouts during the regular season.

Junior Drew Morgan of Atlanta added 13 goals and Alex Kowalski of Smyrna scored 11.

“The team thoroughly deserves the award based on the hard work and effort that they have put in throughout the season. They work hard for each other and display a real sense of team unity both on and off the field," first-year head coach David O’Shea said in a statement. "As well as their obvious talent, it is their drive and character that has propelled them to such a magnificent accolade.”

The boys’ program becomes the second soccer program at St. Pius to be recognized as national champions in the past three years. The girls’ soccer program was named national champions by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2009.
