St. Pius' Schneider Signs to Play Softball at Brenau

Schneider has been a varsity player since her freshman year and has started every game at third base or catcher.

senior Elizabeth "Liz" Schneider has signed a letter-of-intent to play softball at Brenau University in Gainesville. Beginning as a freshman, Schneider has been a member of the varsity softball team and has started in every game of her career at third base or catcher.

"I am very excited to play for the Golden Tigers and study at Brenau," Schneider said. "I like the positive, competitive attitude of the coaches as well as the overall excellence of the softball program. I fell in love with the philosophy that Brenau provides for its students."

Schneider has enjoyed a storied career at St. Pius as she is a two-time all-state selection as well as two-time member of the all-region first team. She was voted Region 5 offensive player of the year as a sophomore in 2009 and the region player of the year in 2010 as a junior. The 2011 region accolades have yet to be announced. Schneider has also been voted by her teammates as the most valuable player in 2009 and 2010.

In her time as a Golden Lion, the softball team has captured four consecutive Region 5-AAA crowns, including last week's 10-2 victory against Woodward in six innings.  As a freshman, Schneider helped her team reach the final four in the state playoffs in 2008. The team has reached the final 16 in each of the last two seasons. St. Pius will host the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Schneider has etched her name in the St. Pius record books, setting many single season standards. She has the single season school record for average (.549), runs batted in (37), triples (5) and hits (56). She also holds the record for most hits in a single game with four. Schneider is on pace to shatter several of her own records during this 2011 campaign.
