St. Pius Swimmer Selected for World Cup Championship Series

Junior Gunnar Bentz will compete in the Federation Internationale de Natation Swimming World Cup Tour in Moscow and Berlin.

St. Pius junior swimmer Gunnar Bentz will join seven other swimmers for the European leg of the Federation Internationale de Natation Swimming World Cup Tour in Moscow and Berlin. He will compete in several events this week. The swimmers were selected based on their overall world rankings with a minimum requirement to have at least a top 50 world ranking.

Bentz, an Atlanta resident and member of the Junior National swim team, won a bronze medal in the 400m IM at the Junior Pan Pacific Games in August. That followed a 12th-place performance at the Olympic Trials in June in the same event. Bentz will compete in the 400m IM, 200m IM, 100m and 200m freestyle.

A former national age group record holder in the 200-yard and 200m breaststroke, Bentz holds several state age group records. He holds the 13-14 and 15-16-year-old age group records in the 200m IM, 400m IM, 100m breast and 200m breast. Bentz also is a member of the 15-18 age group state record 200m, 400m and 400m medley relay teams.
