St. Pius Swimmers to Ink Scholarships Today

Haley Durmer, Mary Elizabeth King and Chandler Ryberg, all record holders, will head to Division I schools.

Three swimmers will sign national letters-of-intent with NCAA Division I programs today at 3:15pm in the Donnellan Center. Haley Durmer, Mary Elizabeth King and Chandler Ryberg will sign with two Atlantic Coast Conference, and one Southeastern Conference school, respectively, in the ceremony.

"These three swimmers have been the heart and soul of this team since the beginning as freshman here at St. Pius," head coach Scott Carter said in a statement. "Their performances are a big reason why the team has accomplished what is has during their time here."

Durmer, a four-time All-American in several events, will sign with the University of Virginia. She holds individual school records in the 50-meter and 500m freestyle, the 200m individual medley and 100m breast stroke. Her relay records include 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and the 200m medley. Durmer is an All-American in two individual events and all relay events. Durmer will be joining a Cavalier team that is the four-time defending ACC champion.

King will swim at Florida State University and is a two-time All-American. She holds the individual school record and is an All-American in the 100m fly. In addition to her individual record, King is also a member of the 200m medley relay team that owns the school record and All-American status as well. The Seminoles boast 33 individual ACC champions since 2001.

Ryberg, a member of the 200m freestyle relay team, will ink her letter-of-intent with the University of Alabama. Ryberg, a school record-holder in the 200m free relay and All-American in the same event, will be joining a Crimson Tide program that has finished 26 times in the top 25 and produced 109 All-Americans.
