St. Pius Weekly Sports Recap

Girls' basketball continued their undefeated season over the week with a win over Lovett. The Golden Lions' boys' squad also beat Lovett, bringing their record to 3-2.

Last week saw an abbreviated athletic schedule as final exams began at . The boys' and girls' basketball teams, wrestling and swimming and diving all competed once. Girls' basketball continues to sit in the No. 2 position in the latest Georgia Athletic Coaches Association AAA poll.

The Golden Lions boys' basketball team defeated Lovett on Saturday evening, 46-45. Senior Collin McKay paced St. Pius (3-2) with 20 points on the evening. The team heads to Birmingham, AL, to take part in the Mountain Brook Holiday Tournament Wednesday through Friday of this week. After a break for Christmas, the Golden Lions will host the 12th Annual St. Pius X Christmas Classic and open with Pinecrest on Dec. 27 at 8pm.

The girls' squad moved to 8-0 on the year defeating No. 2 Lovett (AA), 52-47. Senior Emma Ucinski led three Golden Lions in double figures with 19 points. Dylan Krause and Asia Durr added 10 apiece, while Sydni Payne chipped in 8. The lady cagers are off until the 12th Annual St. Pius X Christmas Classic, Dec. 27-29. The Golden Lions will host Pinecrest on Dec. 27 at 6pm in the first round.

Wrestling participated in the Canton Clash at Cherokee High School over the weekend with senior Robbie Martin and junior Quinn Peragine each placing second in his respective weight class. Wrestling will host an Area 5-AAA meet on Friday at 8:30am.

Boys' and Girls' Swimming and Diving took first place at the inaugural Margaret Gilbert Invitational. The Golden Lions swam past Whitefield and Lovett Saturday morning. The team will be back in action after the Christmas break at the Emory University swim meet on Jan. 7
