In DeKalb: Transportation, GIS Day, Education Conference

County government and schools hosting sessions.

Coming up this week, DeKalb County government is holding two public meetings while the School District plans a parent conference.

DeKalb Transportation Plan 2014. The latest community workshop will be Monday, Nov. 18, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts Center on Rainbow Drive. The meeting is the latest in a series of sessions as the county seeks input on its transportation plan. The Transportation Plan is scheduled to be completed by spring of 2014.

GIS Day.
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Manuel J. Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur. The DeKalb Geographic Information Systems Department will host its annual GIS Day event.  Come out to find helpful information regarding your property’s floodplain status and discover the county's mapping, property conveyance and addressing services.

Agencies attending include U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, DeKalb Emergency Management Agency, DeKalb Police-Crime Analysis Division, DeKalb Watershed Management, DeKalb County School District, City of Decatur, City of Dunwoody, City of Brookhaven, Emory University and Navigation Electronics, Inc. 

Parent Educational Awareness & Empowerment Conference. Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. The Conference Center at Georgia Piedmont Technical College, 494 North Indian Creek, Clarkston. The public is invited to attend the  conference for parents, guardians and mentors of district children. The conference will address questions and concerns about education; navigating the school district; prioritizing ‘life’ versus children; and more. 11Alive's Donna Lowry will serve as moderator.
