Stephen McDaniel. Bibb County Jail mugshot

I'm so sick of bleeding hearts thinking that prison is good enough for these psychos! I just do notRead More understand the mentality that if we, as a society, condone the death penalty that we are somehow barbaric, sick or vengeful. What is wrong with you??? Do you really think it makes us a better society for continuing to support people like this killer for the rest of their lives? Do you understand how much money that costs our country EVERY DAY? I understand that perhaps you feel that there are some innocent people sitting in prison right now and, for those few, we need to be cautious in exacting final justice. However, this psycho admitted that he did it...described it in detail...he is guilty...there is no doubt about that. Furthermore, there is NO...let me repeat that...NO help for him. There is no amount of rehabilitation, no drug, no shock therapy, no surgery, no magic drink...NOTHING...that will help him or change him. I have worked in a correctional setting for many years...with some of the worst criminals in history...(who, by the way, have since been executed)...I have seen them on a daily basis, talked to them, listened to them, watched their daily actions. Trust me when I tell you, there is NOTHING that will change them and I have not lost one second of sleep over their executions...in fact, the opposite is true...I sleep better knowing they are GONE...gone permanently...not just 'put away' for a while. I understand that you think you are being compassionate...you are not. It is a service to society, in soooo many ways, to be rid of them. THEY are the true animals...let me take that back...they aren't even animals...I have two dogs...they have never hurt anyone...I value their lives more than any one of these sick individuals. I can't call them people, I can't call them animals...both are above what they are. There really is no name for it...but I will assure you...they have NO place in society...even in an incarcerated society. Judge me if you will...call me harsh if you must...my opinion comes from seeing and knowing...and you can take my statements how ever you wish...but I know what I know...and you can take that to the bank.

Would a plumber, or an accountant, or the guy who flips burgers, get this treatment for a kiss onRead More the neck?
Octo Slash April 20, 2014 at 12:42 pm
Hell, I kissed a 15 year old girl on the neck. Of course, I was 14 at the time. And she slappedRead More the s*** out of me.

I love being kissed on the neck, that's not sexual unless he left a hell of a big hicky. But itsRead More safer just pinning the tail on the donkey.

How sick is it that someone would report a missing burned corpse? And what's worse, what sickRead More individual would tie the hands and feet of said corpse and leave in the woods? Society these days, geez... (/sarcasm)

The Avondale Estates community is broken hearted in the aftermath of this tragedy. Please beRead More mindful of how stories spread and take on a life of their own. I don't think anyone knows when or how the fire started...this makes it sound like it started while the guests were there. Facts only is a good way to report.

My family and I went for a walk Sunday morning in Avondale Estates near Wells and Laredo streets.Read More We saw ashes outside our home and up the street as we walked. I thought they were probably from a bon fire. After learning later in the day about the terrible house fire, I felt a strong feeling of sadness for the family as I saw more ashes throughout our yard. I cannot phantom what the family and their close friends are going through right now. They are in my thoughts.

Oh and wHen the revenue collection officer asks to search your. Vehicle , " I don't consent toRead More searches " is what you need to practice saying . If you have something obviously illegal in plain sight they can seach. Otherwise you have to give Them permission. Which they need or they wouldn't be ASKING. They'd be telling you they're gonna search . When you refuse them permission they will huff and puff and threaten to call in the drug dog. Blah blah.blah Bring it on steroid head . Then you say "am I under arrest or am I free to go?".
Pam Hamburg April 24, 2014 at 09:28 am
userbronco, you are 110% right. They have NO right to search your vehicle. Of course, they areRead More allowed to peer through the glass to see what they can see, but without a suspicion or proof, they have no right searching your glove compartment, trunk, etc. Yes, say 'am I being detained or am I free to go'? Also, don't roll your window down all the way...you don't have to. About 4 or 5 inches suffices. Stand firm with that one. Be polite, but be firm. Be quiet except when asked a question, then use good judgment in answering. Keep saying 'am I being detained or am I free to go'? Holding court on the side of the road is not a good idea. If they persist in asking you if they can search your vehicle, politely tell them they will have to get a warrant. At all times, be courteous, but FIRM. Know your rights!
userbronco April 24, 2014 at 10:47 am
It's a touchy situation. You want to be as unrememberable as possible to the cop. So when orRead More if you go to court all he wilremember is what he reads in his notebook. That you can request to see by by the way You want to be unrememberable , don't say anything, unless they ask you a question , then use short answers , yes or no will usually suffice, be polite but don't say "sir" a thousand times. I don't say it at all. Make it look like your kissing up . I personally treat cops like I would treat a rattlesnake 96% of the people who are bitten by a rattlesnake are harassing the snake at the time Keep an eye out for them. And don't harass them. You WILL lose any contest with a cop. Even if it's a ego contest on the side of the road . Extra cops are only seconds away and they will beat you up or kill you in a flash if you tick em off Plenty if dash cam and cell phone video to prove it They are kinda like dogs, some are really smart, some are really dumb, but all of em are dangerous in groups or if they feel threatened or if they sense fear in you. Or if they think their getting an easy meal

Sad and worrisome--I often see folks standing on the edge of the street over there and worry aboutRead More being so close to traffic. I wish we had a complete street plan there with a buffer zone between the sidewalk and traffic--with the wall at the Wal-mart shopping center, it would be too expensive to retrofit it, now, but maybe the Wal-mart foundation might consider it as a donation.

How conveeeeeeeeenient. He's a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run. He's a foreigner. And the policeRead More don't have him in jail and just happen to be looking the other way while he takes a freekin' plane flight out of Atlanta!!!!!! Please, someone try to convince me that this was not INTENTIONAL. Please try to convince me that the powers that be didn't let him slip out on purpose. Hell, they probably paid for his airfare. What a totally corrupt country.................and it starts at the VERY TOP!
Al Liram April 14, 2014 at 10:44 am
Debbie, no one forced those kids into the street. There is plenty of sidewalk there to accommodateRead More people waiting and crossing in a proper, safe fashion. Just because this scumbag ran after the accident, does not mean he was at fault in the accident. It would've been nice for details of the accident to be furnished in the article, so that we actually knew who was to blame. I know, I know, that would be asking too much of this "journalist". Forget I said it.

FSG April 7, 2014 at 06:03 pm
If you're on Covington Highway, the Decatur police will not respond to your traffic accident, norRead More will the Decatur fire department. Decatur sanitation will not pick up your trash. You can't get a Decatur business license or a Decatur building permit. Decatur zoning does not apply nor does Decatur code enforcement. You can't vote for Decatur's mayor or city council. Your kids can't attend Decatur schools. Hell, your dog can't even be in a Decatur dog park. On the plus side, our property taxes are dramatically lower. You do, however get your mail through the Decatur post office, so if the USPS is your standard, then Decatur does extend south and east (and north).
Keith April 7, 2014 at 06:41 pm
FSG then why does that area carry the Decatur name and zip code? Has city leadership commented onRead More the situation or looked at improving that area to more closely resemble the vibe and feel of Decatur?
Ari Meier April 10, 2014 at 11:56 pm
Keith, this is because the USPS assigned these areas Decatur zip codes long ago. Zip codes and cityRead More limits are almost never contiguous. This is quite common. For instance, I work in the city of Sandy Springs, in the city proper, but my zip code is an Atlanta zip code. Although the Sandy Springs police serve us. The reality is that people rarely have issues with this until property values and sense of pride is an issue. This is normal and nothing is wrong with feeling that way. As recent as 40 years ago, these outside the city of Decatur areas were prestigious suburban addresses. Things started socially and economically changing over the years, but the USPS never changed the zip code designations.
