Silverbacks Sign Former FC Dallas Forward Luna

The Mexican youngster brings MLS and CONCACAF Champions League experience to Atlanta.

With leading scorer Matt Horth departing for Major League Soccer in the offseason, the Atlanta Silverbacks needed to add firepower to their attack. The club did just that on Tuesday, announcing the signing of former FC Dallas forward Ruben Luna, pending USSF approval. “We were faced with the difficult situation of replacing a natural goal scorer in Matt Horth, but by signing Ruben, we have found someone who can very capably fill that role,” said Silverbacks Head Coach Brian Haynes. “Putting the ball into the back of the net is what he does best, and if given the opportunity, I believe he can be one of the top scorers in the league. El Salvador Calls Up Silverbacks Midfielder Menjivar

The midfielder is seeking a sixth straight national team appearance on March 21 against Ecuador.

For Atlanta Silverbacks midfielder Richie Menjivar, his breakout year continues to get better and better. Just four days after arriving in Atlanta to train with his new team, the 22-year-old midfielder was called up by the El Salvador national team for their friendly against Ecuador on March 21. The American-born midfielder, who signed with the Silverbacks on Feb. 8, will fly from Atlanta to Quito, Ecuador, on March 19 to join his Salvadoran teammates. Silverbacks Preseason Schedule Announced

The team will compete against a USL team and local colleges to gear up for 2013 NASL season.

The Atlanta Silverbacks will begin training camp this Saturday in Atlanta, and the club isn’t wasting any time when it comes to testing their squad in a series of preseason games.  The Silverbacks announced a five-game preseason schedule on Thursday, consisting of all home games. The club will compete against three college teams, one amateur team, and one fellow professional team, as they welcome the Charlotte Eagles to Atlanta Silverbacks Park on March 30.  Here is the full 2013 preseason schedule: All preseason games will be played at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. Silverbacks Re-Sign Key Defensive Duo

The defensive trio helped the Silverbacks earn four shutouts in the final seven games in 2012.

The Atlanta Silverbacks ended the 2012 season in impressive fashion, conceding only four goals over their final seven games. Two of the players who were at the forefront of the team’s defensive dominance were defenders Beto Navarro and Mike Randolph. Silverbacks' Fall Schedule Announced

Entire 2013 schedule has been released as NASL gets set to play first year under new split-season format

North American Soccer League fans can now mark their calendars for the entire 2013 season. Just over a month after releasing its spring season schedule, the NASL announced the fall season schedule as it prepares to begin its first year under the new split-season competition format. The NASL Fall Season will be highlighted by the New York Cosmos’ return to the field. On August 3, the Cosmos will be officially reunited with the NASL when they play host to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, another team that competed in the original NASL back in the 1970s and 1980s. “We’re extremely excited to announce the fall schedule under our new format and await the return of one the greatest soccer legacies ever,” said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. El Salvador national team midfielder RICHIE MENJIVAR has had quite the year so far – and it’s only February. Atlanta native Mark Bloom has signed with his hometown club, and Pablo Cruz and Jahbari Willis will return.

With the 2013 season exactly two months away, the Atlanta Silverbacks are adding the final pieces to their roster. The Silverbacks announced Wednesday the signings of defender Mark Bloom, midfielder Pablo Cruz and forward Jahbari Willis, pending USSF approval. “I’m very excited about bringing in Mark, Pablo, and Jahbari, who are all very talented players,” said Silverbacks Head Coach Brian Haynes. “As a coach, you always want to pick players that compliment your playing style and can come in and add competition to your team. Silverbacks Unveil New Logo

The Atlanta professional soccer club revealed the logo in front of fans at Brewhouse Café in Little Five Points on Wednesday, concluding a two-month process.

It may have been a long and winding road for the Atlanta Silverbacks and their fans, but the search for a new logo is over. The club unveiled its new logo at a party on Wednesday night at Brewhouse Café in Little Five Points, bringing a conclusion to a two-month-long process. “We’re very happy with our new logo and we want to thank everyone who was a part of the process,” said Silverbacks Chairman Boris Jerkunica. “Getting everyone involved was a lot of fun, and I think it made the whole process much more enjoyable. Without the fan involvement, I don’t think we would have come up with such a great logo design.” The new logo, designed by Wisconsin native Ryan Foose, was one of four finalists in the Silverbacks Logo Design Contest, which …

McIntosh Named Silverbacks Assistant Coach

The longtime Atlanta soccer figure has joined the Silverbacks' coaching staff.

The Atlanta Silverbacks have appointed Franklin McIntosh as the assistant coach of the men’s professional team, the club announced Tuesday. Originally from West Bromwich, England, McIntosh has been in Atlanta for 16 years, first as a member of the city’s professional indoor soccer team, the Atlanta Attack, and then later as a director of coaching and coach for a few of the Atlanta area’s prominent youth soccer clubs. He has also served as a scout for the Silverbacks in recent years. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Silverbacks coaching staff,” McIntosh said in a statement. “My goal is to do whatever I can to help Brian and help the club get to where they’re supposed to be – at the top of the league.” As a player, …

The North American Soccer League plans to meet with potential buyers Tuesday.

Will the Atlanta Silverbacks find themselves with a new owner next week? The North American Soccer League plans to meet with potential buyers in Atlanta on Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Sports News Now blog. From the post: Traffic Sports USA put up for sale its 65 percent stake in the team late last year. Boris Jerkunica, an Atlanta businessman and the team’s chairman, owns the remaining 35 percent, as well as the Silverbacks Stadium and surrounding complex, which is located next to Spaghetti Junction where I-285 and I-85 cross on the north side of the city.
