Briarcliff Whole Foods Honoring Local Pork Farm for Humane Animal Treatment

The grocery store is hosting a dinner Friday where shoppers will be able to meet some of the farmers and chow down. The price to reserve is $20.

Just got this in from the people over at Whole Foods Briarcliff. It seems one of their (relatively) local pork producers got an award for its humane treatment of animals. If you've got $20, you can chow down on some of their foods and meet some of the farmers Thursday: Whole Foods Market Briarcliff is celebrating local vendor – Thompson Farms – who has received a 5+, the highest rating from Global Animal Partnership. Thompson Farms is an all-natural pork producer that raises free-range pigs on 1,000 acres in southern Brooks County, Georgia. To achieve a Step 5+ rating, a farm’s animals must be born and live their entire lives on one farm, pigs and cattle must be slaughtered on the farm, and chickens can only be transported short distances…

Three Coyotes!

Another sighting: This time it's three coyotes on Shasta Way in the Briarcliff area. These things never get old.

Some might say coyotes aren't news anymore. Been there, done that. In fact, I think this is like the fourth post on coyotes, so one could make the argument that coyote sightings are no longer newsworthy. Make the argument if you'd like. It's also true that coyotes are sensationally awesome. I tend to avoid sensationalizing anything, but I have no problem going nuts about coyotes. Everytime I get an email with "coyote" in the subject line, my day is a little bit better. So, moving forward... There's been another coyote sighting. This time it's Shasta Way in the Briarcliff neighborhood. Courtesy of the North Briarcliff Civic Association: A neighbor was driving down Shasta at 10 pm Sunday night and saw 3 large coyotes walking down Shasta and …

Patch Launches Civil War Page On Facebook

Patch page focused on Civil War events and commemorations in our communities.

This past April 12, the nation marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War. Patch has launched a Civil War Page to highlight all the events in the different Patch communities where the war played a role — from battle commemorations and reenactments, to book readings, memorials and other events. The North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area likely played a role in all this. A cursory review of local history reveals some interesting tidbits about the Northlake and Henderson Mill areas. North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch will be looking into this a little more, so expect some actual stories in the future. You can check out our stories and photo galleries and comment on posts to the page, as well as share your thoughts and …

At the risk of launching a never-ending debate, I think that's right, but, at the same time, the details are very important (and I'm definitely not sensitive or an apologist). And while emotional sensitivity doesn't necessarily get anyone anywhere here, this debate, I think, definitely requires a sensitivity to detail. I direct you to a recent, useful article in The Washington Post: http://www.…   more ›
