DeKalb County's Camp Superstars summer camp registration is now open at 12 recreation centers excluding the N.H. Scott Recreation Center due to renovations. That includes Mason Mill and Briarwood Park rec centers. Camp Superstars is the hot spot for kids during the summer. To embark on the total summer camp experience, parents and kids need to look no further than their local recreation center. Camp Superstars is a summer day camp for ages 5-15 and begins June 3 to Aug. 2 from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at a charge of $55 per week. Breakfast and lunch are provided. We hope installation will begin soon!
Thanks to Drew Valley's Steve Walker for alerting us to the fact that new playground equipment has arrived outside the Briarwood Rec Center. The area outside the complex, at the intersection of Briarwood Road and Briarwood Way, has recently seen the installation of black fencing; sidewalks; and several parking spots. No word on when the installation of the new playground equipment will begin, but we hope it's soon!

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs will hold Winter Break Day Camp, Dec. 24-31 and Jan. 2-7, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., at all 13 recreation centers, including Briarwood and Mason Mill. Camp will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 in observance of the Christmas Holiday and New Year’s Day. To embark on the total winter break camp experience, look no further than your local recreation center! Winter Break Day Camp is a camp for ages 5 -12 and will be held Monday through Friday at a charge of $6 per day. Registration will begin Dec. 17-21 and all payments should be made to DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs by cashier’s check or money order. Participants must provide their own lunch and snack.

Brookhaven has a couple of more weeks to enjoy a dip in one of our community's pools.
Patch has learned from Friends of Briarwood Park that the pool at Briarwood Rec Center has reopened, and will remain open through August 12. Friends of Briarwood Park is hoping that DeKalb County will keep the pool open until Labor Day. The pool was closed for about a week while repairs were made.

While the Briarwood Park Recreation Center swimming pool readies for opening this Saturday with expanded hours of operation, a group of homeowners continue to push for renovations to the facility. "All we're trying to do is generate enough interest both in the community and among county officials that Briarwood Park is a diamond in the rough," said Drew Valley resident Robert Turner. The 2012 DeKalb County swim season begins May 26 and runs through Aug. 6. Select pools will remain open on weekends until Sept. 3. The Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs Department currently operates 10 outdoor swimming pools and one aquatic center. Camp "Funtastic" is a summer day camp designed and staffed especially for children ages 14 and older with mild to moderate disabilities. Summer camp will be held June 11 to Aug. 3 from 7am - 5pm, Mon - Fri, at a charge of $90 per week. Participants must bring their own breakfast and lunch.
