The Golden Lions football team ended its season with a state quarterfinal loss to Cairo as the winter sports season starts up.
Only one team saw action last week during the Thanksgiving week. The Golden Lion football team hosted Cairo in the state quarterfinals Friday night. All winter sports action gets into full swing over the next two weeks. Boys' basketball has four games while the girls' cagers have five contests scheduled; both beginning tonight. Wrestling gets underway this weekend, and swimming and diving will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The 2011 season concluded for the St. Pius football team in the state quarterfinals for the second time in three years. Cairo knocked off the Golden Lions (12-1) at George B. Maloof Stadium, 21-0.
