Golden Corral to (Finally) Open Soon

Issues with its septic and sewer system kept the buffet chain from opening a new location at North DeKalb Mall last month.

After a period of delay, Golden Corral will open at North DeKalb Mall later this month, the buffet chain said Friday. The restaurant plans to have its certificate of occupancy from DeKalb County on March 22, and it will open March 25. The restaurant's free-standing location at the northeast end of the mall's parking lot was initially supposed to open sometime last month, but issues related to the mall sewer and septic system delayed the process, a Golden Corral spokesman said. "We've had one issue after another, but we've finally got it resolved," he said.

Golden Corral Finally Coming to North DeKalb Mall

The buffet restaurant will open in the largely unused mall parking lot behind Chick-fil-A and the now-defunct Checker's restaurants on North Druid Hills Road.

Good news for people who like waterfalls of chocolate and cotton candy with their chicken and biscuits. Golden Corral is finally coming to North DeKalb Mall, according to Tomorrow's News Today, the popular Atlanta retail and development blog. We wrote about this about a year ago, but the blog guesses the restaurant may open later this year: As I mentioned earlier, there is also still the hope that a Costco will come to the mall at some point. Additionally, there is also talk that the current triple drive-thru Chick-fil-A will be taken down, along with the adjacent former Checkers, and that a full service Chick-fil-A will be built in their place.  Check out the blog post for more information. Can you wait? I sure can't. I'm going to get …

If it's unhealthy don't eat there. Its popular, family oriented, great work lunch options. Chain restaurants are mostly what is in the city. Unless small family restaurants can make it here and bring diversity with quality service.   more ›

Golden Corral Plans Meet Zoning Delay

A potential Golden Corral restaurant at North DeKalb Mall ran into some problems with the Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday.

Plans to build a Golden Corral restaurant at North DeKalb Mall encountered a slight delay from the DeKalb County Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday. The applicants have been given 30 days to revise their application due to an issue with a potential sign on the property. William Matthews, representing engineers and land planners Frank Miller Associates, has been working with Golden Corral and the owners of North DeKalb Mall to seek a variety of required zoning changes. His company has spent about three months working with Hendon Properties and Golden Corral in creating the project plan. The proposed restaurant would be located in the mall's parking lot that is rarely used except for the occasional carnival or Christmas tree sale. Matthews…
