County Breaks Ground on Kittredge Park Renovations

Big improvements, including a new bridge re-establishing access to the park's south side, are coming for the park.

DeKalb County officials and a group of local residents who have been cleaning and clearing Kittredge Park off North Druid Hills Road for the last several years broke ground last week on the park's county-funded renovation. The group, which included county Commissioner Kathie Gannon and members of Friends of Kittredge Park, gathered around a ceremonial tree planting at 6 p.m. Thursday to mark the moment. Alan Pinsker, a member of the group, filled Patch in last week on what's been done and what's in store for the park: Friends of Kittredge Park, comprised of residents from several surrounding homeowners' associations, has been diligently working in the park virtually every month over the past 4 years to remove literally tons of invasive …

Remembering by Doing at Kittredge Park

As part of Hands On Atlanta's 9/11 Day of Service, area volunteers helped clean up Kittredge Park to help bring it closer to what is envisioned in its master plan.

Perhaps it was meant to be like this: Sept. 11, 2011, a beautiful, clear, hot day in Atlanta, the kind of day that tells people to get out and do something, make something, be something. In this case, Friends of Kittredge Park, Hands on Atlanta and Emory University teamed up to spend this solemn day cleaning up Kittredge Park, getting it closer to the envisioned structure and uses of the area. Kittredge Park is hidden down a road that straddles the DeKalb International Student Center, formerly Kittredge Magnet School, on one side and Adams Stadium on the other. The bulk of the park, including a small pool and two baseball diamonds, is completely invisible from bustling North Druid Hills Road. The park is quiet, heavily forested and has a …
