Garry Castillo was shot outside the Kroger in the Toco Hill shopping center in 2011.
The Justice Department won't pursue the death penalty for two men charged in the killing of armored car guard Garry Castillo outside the Kroger in the Toco Hill shopping center two years ago. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the justice department's decision. Ashley Henderson and Stacey Dooley have been charged in the killing. Garda Cash Logistics guard Castillo was shot while leaving the grocery store with a cash pick-up in the early afternoon of March 15, 2011. He was transported to Grady Hospital where later died of his injuries. Read also:

Ruben Fernandez was named Kroger's vice president of merchandising for the chain's Atlanta Division on Thursday.
Ruben Fernandez started as a bagger in the Toco Hill Kroger in 1982. It was the start of a 30-year journey up the supermarket's chain that continues today. Kroger announced Thursday the promotion of Fernandez to vice president of merchandising for the grocery store chain's Atlanta Division. Atlanta Division said today it is recalling select in-store made Bakery Mardi Gras King Cake Cinnamon sold in four states because it may contain pecans not listed on the label. Customers who purchased the product between Dec. 30, 2012 and Feb. 4, 2013, should return the product to stores for a full refund or replacement. People allergic to pecans could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product. For consumers who are not allergic to pecans, there is no safety issue with the product. Both North Druid Hills-Briarcliff locations are participating in Project Overcoat.
This winter, Kroger’s Atlanta Division will team up with WAGA FOX 5, FedEx, United Way, Kiss 104.1FM, and the Atlanta Mission for the 2013 Project Overcoat campaign. From Jan. 5-19, Kroger customers and associates are encouraged to bring new or gently used coats to any Kroger location throughout metro Atlanta. The unidentified man also said early Sunday morning he left a bomb in the Kroger in Toco Hill Shopping Center. No bomb was found.
A man threatened to shoot up the Kroger supermarket in Toco Hill during a bomb threat early Sunday morning, DeKalb County police said. The unidentified man called the Toco Hill Shopping Center store shortly after midnight, the police report said. "There is a bomb inside the store, and I will be there in 15 minutes to shoot up the store like in the Batman movie," the man told a store employee. The suspect called again but did not give any reason for the threats. The store employee also told police the call came from a restricted number. Health officials aim to increase that percentage, especially since this year's season may be a bad one. Sagamore Hills Elementary School, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and Torah Day School of Atlanta received $1,500 grants from Kroger, the national grocer said Wednesday. The grants are part of Kroger's Earning Plus Learning program, which evalutes how well a school promoted healthy living in their school during the 2011-12 school year. We need to change the laws so it IS cheaper to execute them than house them for the rest of their miserable lives - while ensuring no innocent person is ever put to death. If the evidence is irrefutable that someone murdered someone else in cold blood they should be put to death quickly in my opinion.   more ›
