Emily Morrison, a volleyball player, will head to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and Natasha Sherrod, a softball player, signed with Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
St. Pius has had two senior student athletes sign national letters-of-intent with NCAA Division I colleges during the fall signing period. Emily Morrison (Norcross) and Natasha Sherrod (Atlanta) will further their athletic careers in volleyball and softball, respectively. Morrison, an outside hitter and four-year varsity letter winner, signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga beginning in the fall of 2013. She has been selected first team AAA all-state for three consecutive years and has led the Golden Lion volleyball squad to back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012. Head football coach Paul Standard enters his 12th season with a 96-34 record and a strong returning corps of players.
Although classes began on August 10 at St. Pius X Catholic High School, the fall athletic teams were already in full swing with pre-season practice. All six Golden Lion fall programs captured region titles and advanced to the state playoffs last season. The 2012-13 campaign sees the Golden Lions enter Region 6-AAA after the last round of re-classification in which the Georgia High School Association moved to a six-classification system. St. Pius also finished second in the overall standings of the Regions Directors' Cup for 2011-12.
