Charter Schools and a Season of Local Schools Activism

The Globe Academy and Tapestry Public Charter School plan to open in the area soon.

The current advocates of eliminating state restrictions on new city school systems in infant-aged Dunwoody are showing how quickly a revolutionary paradigm (that of forming new cities) in the Georgia General Assembly can evolve and grow. Although many have speculated Dunwoody’s cityhood efforts were always envisioned as a one-two punch eventuating with city schools legislation, the dueling media dramas of DeKalb County’s school board and CEO’s investigation have created public zealotry over defining community independence in terms of city and school inseparability. New Charter School to Hold Open Houses

The Globe Academy will hold an open house in Toco Hill-Avis G. Williams Library on Feb. 2.

The North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area's incoming Globe Academy is hosting a series of open houses for prospective families. This was released Thursday: ATLANTA – Prospective families are invited to learn about The GLOBE Academy, DeKalb’s new dual-language charter elementary school (with tracks in English-French, English-Mandarin and English-Spanish) at several upcoming events. Open Houses will be held on Feb. 2 at the Toco Hills Library (1282 McConnell Drive in Decatur) and on Feb. 16 at the Chamblee Library (4115 Clairmont Road in Chamblee), each from 2-4 p.m. Webinars will be scheduled throughout the month of February for interested families unable to attend the Open Houses. Briarcliff Charter School to Go Before State Board Wednesday

The Globe Academy could receive final approval from the state board of education.

Parents and students in our community might have a new charter school option to choose from if the state board of education gives its approval Wednesday. The Globe Academy will go before the board for final approval in downtown Atlanta in the afternoon.  From a statement the school sent: ATLANTA – Families in DeKalb County may soon have another choice for their children’s education that will have them saying “merci,” “xièxiè” and “gracias!” The GLOBE Academy will present information about its proposed dual-language charter elementary school (with tracks in English-French, English-Mandarin and English-Spanish) for final approval tomorrow to the State Board of Education. I totally agree with your comment. I am a resident of South Dekalb county (Stone Mountain) and it is pretty obvious that there were no attempts to get the word out about this school to parents on this side of town.
