Reports: Thieves Steal Catalytic Converters from Cars

A flurry of auto part thefts have occurred throughout the area recently.

Local police have responded to a flurry of incidents recently where thieves stole catalytic converters out of motorists' cars. Tucker Patch reported the following Monday: Last Wednesday, thieves came to the parking lot at Northlake Mall wanting a very specific car part: the catalytic converter. And they had almost no trouble getting it. Jen Burkhart told Tucker Patch that she and her 10-year-old son came outside after shopping mid-afternoon to find a security guard standing next to her Toyota 4Runner. "I thought, hmm, did I park in a handicap spot? He asked if the car was mine and I said yes," Burkhart said. "He told me someone stole my catalytic converter!" Police Looking for Cell Phone Thieves at Northlake Chick-fil-A

The restaurant was targeted by two men whose theft was caught on camera.

The DeKalb County Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying two suspects who stole a cell phone from the Chick-fil-A location at 3967 Lavista Rd. in Tucker. The restaurant’s surveillance tape captured one of the men taking the phone off the counter while the other one posed as a customer. The incident took place on Thursday, June 7 at approximately 8:30am. Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said in a press release the stolen item was an iPhone 4 belonging to an employee and had been left near the cash register. The two men left the premises hurriedly and were seen driving away in a newer model, grey Nissan Altima with tinted windows. iPods stolen from Emory area home in burglary A burglar broke into a home in the Emory University area and stole two iPods, among other items, Tuesday afternoon, DeKalb County police said. The 41-year-old victim said her nanny left her home in the 1900 block of Westminster Way at about 2:20pm and locked all the doors, the police report said. When the victim returned home at 3pm, she noticed damage to a rear basement door where someone entered. Nearly $500 worth of items were stolen, including an iPod, an iPod Nano, a pocket knife and $20 in cash. While dog walking, woman sees intruder flee Laurel Ridge Drive home While walking her dog, a woman who lives on Laurel Ridge Drive saw her neighbor's house broken into Jan. 13, DeKalb County police said. The woman was walking her dog at about 7:45am when she heard an alarm sound inside a home in the 2500 block of Laurel Ridge Drive, the police report said. She saw the intruder run from an open front door, get into an older maroon Chevy Caprice backed into the home's carport and turn left onto Laurel Ridge Drive, which leads to a cul-de-sac. She watched the car turn around, speed past her and leave the area. The car did not have a license plate. Nothing was reported stolen from the home.
