No one was charged in the April 7 incident.
A drunk Emory University student was bounced from Maggie's Neighborhood Bar & Grill in Toco Hill this month and called the police on the bouncer to say she felt assaulted. The bouncer told DeKalb County police he found the 22-year-old student asleep at a table shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, according to a police report. When he woke her, she would fall back asleep, he said, so he escorted her from the bar. On the way out, her body went limp, so he supported her by placing his hands under her armpits, he said. Once outside, the student tried to re-enter the bar, and the bouncer said she struck him. The student admitted to a responding officer she was intoxicated and tired but said she was able to leave the bar on her own and felt…

A reliable source at Chick-fil-A said that they were at one point (a couple years ago) contemplating a new location in Toco Hill that would likely have been the spot where Chase is now building. Could North Druid Hills be too small for Office Depot and OfficeMax? We could find out as soon as this week. The two national office supply retailers may merge this week, according to The Huffington Post. From the Post report: The deal is not yet done, and talks could still fall apart, the [Wall Street] Journal reported. An announcement could come as early as this week, the Journal added, citing the sources. A spokesperson for each company could not be reached for immediate comment. The office-supply retailers have been hit hard by competition from online retailers and other retailers such as Costco and Wal-Mart, the Journal said. The auto repair shop in Toco Hill Shopping Center will now offer expanded services, including travel planning, insurance and membership.
AAA Car Care Plus in Toco Hill Shopping Center has closed off part of its parking lot and is expanding to offer new services. The existing shop offers automotive repair services, but signs posted around the new construction say the expanded shop will offer travel, insurance and AAA membership services. It's good news for the center, which suffered a setback more than a year ago when the space's previous tenant, Blockbuster, closed down. The national movie rental chain shut down most of its stores across the country, and several locations have not been replaced with new tenants, including the former Blockbuster location in Shamrock Plaza near North DeKalb Mall.

I passed by Toco Hill Shopping Center last night and noticed that the fireworks tent has made its yearly appearance in anticipation of Independence Day. Here's a link to a story we wrote last year about the seller and some useful safety information about fireworks in general. (Preview: They're dangerous.)

That's too bad. If the last moment of one of my parents life were looking at that ugly face while it was gleefully murdering them, I would hope he would get death sooner than his natural time. It was good enough for his victim, and he absolutely deserves it.   more ›
