Students Celebrate Hanukkah at TDSA

Projects from students at the North Druid Hills school since the Jewish holiday began Saturday.

What wonderfully colourful and creative projects! I continue to be impressed with TDSA. I am often driving down LaVista when the students are dismissed and it is really remarkable how the school sends staff out to help the children cross the street safely. Three North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Area Schools Get Kroger $1,500 Grants

Sagamore Hills Elementary School, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and Torah Day School of Atlanta received grants.

Sagamore Hills Elementary School, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and Torah Day School of Atlanta received $1,500 grants from Kroger, the national grocer said Wednesday. The grants are part of Kroger's Earning Plus Learning program, which evalutes how well a school promoted healthy living in their school during the 2011-12 school year. Other Atlanta-area schools receiving grants include: $1,500 grant winners: $1,000 grant winners: The Earning Plus Learning entries took the form of scrapbooks, photos, videos, essays, news clippings and more. Ellis Faces Questions About County Animal Shelter at Forum

The treatment of animals in the county's care was a top concern at a town hall forum at Torah Day School of Atlanta on Wednesday night.

DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis faced questions Wednesday night regarding a number of pressing county issues – property values, traffic, development – but one issue received the most attention: the treatment and care of animals in the county shelter. "It's an embarassment," said one woman regarding reports that conditions at the shelter in Decatur are deplorable and inhumane. "I agree with you," Ellis said. "We gotta do better." Several other residents attending the CEO's town hall forum at Torah Day School of Atlanta on Lavista Road – one of many Ellis is holding this month – agreed.
