Immaculate Heart of Mary Student Named Profoundly Gifted Scholar

Josh Forbes was named a Davidson Young Scholar for, among other things, scoring in the 99.9th percentile on a talent or IQ standardized test.

Josh Forbes, an eighth-grade student at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, was recently named a Davidson Young Scholar. To become a Davidson Scholar a student must score in the 99.9th percentile on a qualified talent and/or IQ standardized test. In addition, a portfolio of work demonstrating the student’s performance two to three grade levels above his/her peers may also be required. Philanthropists Bob and Jan Davidson founded the Davidson Young Scholar Program in 1999 to recognize, nurture and support profoundly intelligent young people and to provide opportunities for them to develop their talents to make a positive difference. As a scholar Josh has been given a personal consultant who will provide support services in the areas …

Letters to the Editor

Residents Should Clean Up Before Protesting Walmart

A Medlock Park resident says people protesting Walmart should look around at their community and pick up a rake before demanding higher-standard alternatives to the ubiquitous international retailer.

North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch welcomes letters from readers. Send them to jonathan.cribbs@patch.com. While I am not a fan of Walmart, this area desperately needs tax revenue and revitalization. Suburban Plaza is dying, and this area needs to jump-start with a major retailer. I would love to see a mixed use development with unique stores there, but the demographics don't support it. If the support were there, it would be going there as opposed to Clifton Road across from the Centers for Disease Control. Residents opposing the development need to get over it because, truthfully, the bad element they fear is already milling about Suburban Plaza. I'm sorry to say this, but this neighborhood isn't affluent enough to support this area on …

North Druid Hills Resident Authors Children's Book

Susan Rochat has written "Mr. Robin and the Very Clever Worm," a tale about skirting death, originally written for her grandchildren.

North Druid Hills resident Susan Rochat has turned her talent for writing poetry into a children’s book, combining forces with her artist daughter Melanie Rochat, a resident of Gulf Breeze, FL, who served as her illustrator. Entitled Mr. Robin and the Very Clever Worm, the light-hearted tale in verse about skillfully skirting death was originally written for the author’s grandchildren, but since it became a family project, mother and daughter decided to expand their audience. Rochat immigrated with her original family from India years ago and was trained as a nurse. She and her husband Roger, a doctor currently working in public health education, raised three children together and are now grandparents to four. Rochat has written poetry for…
