Emily Morrison, a volleyball player, will head to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and Natasha Sherrod, a softball player, signed with Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
St. Pius has had two senior student athletes sign national letters-of-intent with NCAA Division I colleges during the fall signing period. Emily Morrison (Norcross) and Natasha Sherrod (Atlanta) will further their athletic careers in volleyball and softball, respectively. Morrison, an outside hitter and four-year varsity letter winner, signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga beginning in the fall of 2013. She has been selected first team AAA all-state for three consecutive years and has led the Golden Lion volleyball squad to back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012. Lakeside's volleyball team finishes the season in the final four in Georgia High School Association's 5A state playoffs. After winning the 6AAAAA region and taking three tough matches in the state playoffs, Lakeside could not fight off Whitewater in the semi-finals last Wednesday night. Lakeside has been a GHSA team since 2009 and a club team before that. Henderson Middle School helps develop players, and players participate on club teams Tsunami DeKalb and Tsunami South and A-5 in Alpharetta. Graduating senior players are co-captains Jenny Miller and Amy VanSant, Brittany Scott, Jasmine Echols and Emma Wakeman.
