The former Atlanta Braves star said he "winged" his speech.
Future baseball Hall of Famer and former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones spoke to Emory University seniors last week. The Thursday event was part of the lead-up to the university's Monday graduation ceremony. From a New York Times story about Jones' speech: Jones added: “One of the ways to make people forgive you is stand up like a man, admit your mistakes and move forward. People are going to respect you a lot more when you own up to the mistakes you made.” He said the rock-star-like lifestyle in his first few seasons “was awesome.” He followed with a serious postscript: “It came back to haunt me.” Sounding on occasion much like a commencement speaker, he urged students to take their jobs seriously and, citing his charitable foundation…

While filming "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" in the Atlanta area, the 22-year-old film star visited the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, among other local spots.
Hollywood starlet Jennifer Lawrence garnered plenty of press attention when she was filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire throughout the Atlanta area this past fall. But the Golden Globe-winning actress also spent some down time in the Virginia Highland and Druid Hills communities with a Vanity Fair magazine writer for this month's cover story. Among the spots she discussed in the story: the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and a "taqueria" restaurant near Emory University. Vanity Fair hasn't posted the story online, so if you want the full story, you'll have to pick it up at your local newstand. But here's some of the hyperlocal flavor. Emory also was listed as 18th among national universities offering the "best value" to students based on a combination of academic quality and the average level of need-based financial aid. Emory's Goizueta Business School, which is ranked separately from the university's main undergraduate program based on a peer survey of deans and senior faculty, came in 14th in the undergraduate business rankings. "An education at Emory University is the sum total of many distinguished components that are difficult to aggregate and rank in one numerical grade," Emory Provost Earl Lewis said. "As a research-…
