Emory Men Ranked No. 4 in Nation

The Eagles continue to dominate conference play.

The Emory University Eagles are moving up the ranks of Division III basketball. The Eagles are ranked No. 4 in the Top 25 poll this week, up four spots from last week. “It’s awesome to get recognized and it’s great to be where we are, but you gotta take it game by game,” Senior Austin Claunch told Fox 5 Atlanta. “Because especially in conference, every team can beat you.” Emory started the season 12-0 and suffered their first loss of the season on the road against NYU on Jan. 13. Since the loss, the Eagles have dominated against conference rivals Brandeis, Carnegie Melon and Case Western Reserve. The men are on the road this weekend, visiting Chicago on Jan. 27 and Washington (Mo) on Jan. 29. For the full interview with Claunch and the …

Emory Begins Smoking Ban

The tobacco-free initiative began Jan. 1.

When Emory University students return to classes on Jan. 18, cigarette smokers will have to adjust to a new smoking ban on campus. The new policy, which prohibits smoking on Emory University and Emory Healthcare properties, was approved last year. Fourteen temporary areas designated for smoking will be set up around the properties "for a limited time," according to an Emory spokesperson. Emory employees and students that use tobacco are encouraged to take advantage of free cessation medications and classes to help quit smoking. Patients and hospital visitors are also asked to adhere to the smoking ban. Emory joins more than 580 colleges and universities that ban smoking on campus. Roughly 2,800 hospitals and healthcare companies also …

The university will bring back pushball, an old tradition, during the celebration Wednesday.

In honor of Emory University’s 175th anniversary, a bit of history will be made with the return of the game of pushball–one of the university’s most legendary traditions–during a special event for the entire Emory community Wednesday. The anniversary celebration, which will run from 11:30am - 1:30pm, is a highlight of Emory’s yearlong effort to mark 175 years of education, research and outreach. In addition to pushball, the event begins with a torch relay through campus and lighting of a cauldron on Asbury Circle with Emory President Jim Wagner and Dooley, “The Spirit of Emory,” followed by performances from Emory’s a cappella groups as well as food and games. Remembering by Doing at Kittredge Park

As part of Hands On Atlanta's 9/11 Day of Service, area volunteers helped clean up Kittredge Park to help bring it closer to what is envisioned in its master plan.

Perhaps it was meant to be like this: Sept. 11, 2011, a beautiful, clear, hot day in Atlanta, the kind of day that tells people to get out and do something, make something, be something. In this case, Friends of Kittredge Park, Hands on Atlanta and Emory University teamed up to spend this solemn day cleaning up Kittredge Park, getting it closer to the envisioned structure and uses of the area. Kittredge Park is hidden down a road that straddles the DeKalb International Student Center, formerly Kittredge Magnet School, on one side and Adams Stadium on the other. The bulk of the park, including a small pool and two baseball diamonds, is completely invisible from bustling North Druid Hills Road. The park is quiet, heavily forested and has a …
