ReplyAs heinous as the crime is, take a look at the basics: the idiot robbed someone waiting for a bus??? Not exactly the right strategy if he was looking for a big payday.
And if you're seriously looking for a solution, train your eye on the courts downtown. You think this was this perp's first time out?
Lastly: pay attention, and give some support, to the local schools: they are the best chance we have for turning some of the potential jackasses into responsible citizens. I've got MH Jackson HS yard signs for 15 bucks, and I deliver: chris at scenichanger.com, all proceeds go to the Jackson PTSA.

ReplyGood, timely article! Might I add some other on-line sources; many neighborhood listservs have to be asked to join, as is the case with some FB pages:
SAND: https://www.facebook.com/groups/6408283052/
Ormewood Park: Google Group: OPCA.moderator@gmail.com
-https://www.facebook.com/groups/OrmewoodPark/
Boulevard Heights (BOHO): https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!forum/boulevardheightsMost neighborhoods have Google/Yahoo, etc. groups that offer a range of discussions from BOLO's ('be on the lookout') to yard sales. These are essential for keeping up with crime trends, city/county/state services (and the lack thereof), important contacts and events, schools, etc.

ReplyThere is no dollar amount listed for these scholarships: they pay for all expenses while the recipient is engaged in academic studies. For example, they'd pay through for law or medical school, or PhD. When a figure is cited, it is $400,000. Go Jaguars!

On the article Walmart is Anchor Tenant for Glenwood Place Project

ReplyCostco- because of their size and customer volume- would be as bad or worse than a 'typical' Walmart. Once again, it is not the brand of the anchor tenant, it is the volume of customers and supply trucks that is the problem with the proposal. 10,000 car trips placed on 2-lane roads, with only one-direction interstate access nearby- and the newly renovated high school across the street- would be ruinous for that area.
Walmart's real estate exec's must be dumb as stumps not to see the problems with that location. -

@GPg- you certainly have justifiable reason(s) for your cynicism. But as a parent of a sophomore at MHJHS, I can tell you unequivocally that the new Principal, Ms. Stephanie Johnson, has the place on a steady, sturdy, and ambitious upward path. When the building is done, that will be an asset to the community. When she is done, it will be one of the best assets of the community- and that in SE ATL, that already holds unrivalled and unequalled gems like the Zoo, Cyclorama, EAV, etc. All the other HS's in APS were re-built with SPLOST funds; Jackson is the last, and we made sure, not the least.

ReplyThe original completion date was August, 2013- and that always looked quite ambitious to those of us that were following the process. Numerous things added to delays- like the fact that the building wasn't built exactly as was in the original '85 plans, so that structure had to be removed, or moved, or strengthened to support the current plans- to the added gym and performance spaces (Yay, Leslie Grant & SEACS, who pushed hard for that!) , etc., etc., etc.- so the date was moved to have the school up & running for the semester that begins Jan. '14.
