Sorry but with the board filing a law suit to stop them from being ousted. I think he needs to answer our questions, and tax payers need to come to the meeting angry. We have sat back, watched him bring the new superintendent who is an insider to the district, and we are seeing that he is caring more about the board members who have shown they are incompetent than the kids and teachers who the district should be focusing on. It's time that we find out who Mr. Orson really is and who he really is for, because so far, I'm not seeing him as being for the kids of DeKalb-and I mean all of the kids, not just those in his area!!!!!

I agree H.A. Hurley, This area is being BSed by the police. Our area was told in the fall of 2011 that we were Greenacres and had nothing to complain about compared to other areas of the county. They don't seem to understand that we don't want to be like the crime ridden parts of DeKalb. As the head of our Neighborhood Watch, we can't even learn how homes are being broken into, so that we can help each other better secure our homes and inform people on what to look for. Rarely are their cars in our neighborhoods, and we pay much higher taxes than the parts of DeKalb that the police like to compare us to. I remember when we first moved in and there were police officers on bikes who got to know us as a community, now nothing. We too are seriously thinking of leaving and realize that if we chose to stay that our property values will continue to fall.

Decatur Mom, we don't have children for our convenience. Public schools are not here for a parent's convenience. They are set up to educate children. As a tax payer and parent, I want them to use best practices that show good results time and time again. Sadly too many schools here fly by the seat of their pants do what is best for those in charge, and this has nothing to do what is best for the children and their learning. Most schools up North have a September-June schedule and are far superior than even the City of Decatur Schools.

I like the idea of having a city, but no boundaries have been designated. Will my home be in the new "city" boundaries? No one knows, so it's difficult to get excited about anything. There are many people who would love to see a change, but more information and definite boundaries would be needed to get excited. Also contacting neighborhood associations and neighborhood watch groups and getting them involved would help get citizens excited and on board. People in this area want a change, but more specifics are needed to get people mobilized and on board.

The focus should be on the children and NOT the adults. School is not a babysitting service for parents and its intent should be to educate the children to the best of the districts ability. How do these early start dates at the beginning of the year effect children and their learning? Do teachers spend time reteaching material after the week long breaks? How do early start times effect the children? To me these are the questions parents and educators should be asking. Whether the start times and vacations are convenient to parents is irrelevant, if it effects the children's learning in a positive way. If these breaks and early start times are not improving the quality of education, than that is what parents should be discussing.

Hearing parents complain about breaks being unconvient is on par with the way those ahead of many school districts fail to realize that public schools are to educate our children and not for adult convience of any kind.

There have been reports of white pick up with a blue lower portio and penguins on the tailgate with Hispanic males driving around casing homes out. This truck was in the area and 911 was called on Wednesday about its activity.

If the City of Decatur, does something like this, this Unincorporated DeKalb family will no longer look to the City of Decatur to do shopping and dining. Currently we shop in the City of Decatur first, but I will be supporting the businesses in Unincorporated DeKalb and stop shopping at the local stores in the City of Decatur that I enjoy or dining in the restaurants, usually twice a week. This is just a greed grab and I won't support it. Where is good Growth DeKalb on this? To me, this is much more important, as the Walmart is coming.

I am sad that development is not being sought out for the vacant car lots that are in this area and that developers are interested in taking down homes and trees instead.
