ReplyI wish Decatur would do better long-term planning. They'll need to annex more and more to pay for their services and at some point they'll have to go through residential areas to get what they need. I wish they would just annex the entire Emory corridor. Crazy talk, I know, because they want to keep their "village" vibe. But where are all those elementary schools kids going to go to high school? Decatur High will not be enough. Where do you have space to build a new high school? Can your quaint downtown businesses (which I just learned are WAY better than the rest of the county) give you enough revenue? Why not take a huge chunk of us? We bring schools, parks, lots of commercial revenue and great residents who care about the entire "greater" Decatur area, not just 4 square miles. If they did it right, Decatur's local government could win over our entire area.

ReplyThe gas company gave a presentation to the Sagamore Civic Association several weeks ago. This is the last leg of a 15-year renovation project to replace a 50-year old pipeline that connects gas to all of Dekalb County. They made it clear that every homeowner on the easement was notified of the construction and that after the line is installed, everything will be replaced. Many at the meeting commented that they did a very nice job in Leafmore re-landscaping after the crews were done. Can you show pictures of that? Yes it's a nuisance, but at some point infrastructure needs to be replaced and that's part of the deal when you buy a house on an easement.

ReplyI wish Decatur would annex the Emory Corridor up to Northlake. I know they won't (for many reasons, but mostly Decatur running its own schools) but we have a lot to offer them like Emory, good schools, nice houses, and more commercial property. I feel more a part of Decatur than Chamblee, Brookhaven, Tucker, or Atlanta.

Don Broussard,
In every post I read by you (which are many on this site), you come across as a jerk and a bully who shuts down the conversation. Not everyone feels the same way you do, and it's not because we are "misinformed." Calling people stupid doesn't foster a healthy dialogue. At least you use your real name for all of us to google so we can avoid you in real life social and professional settings. -

ReplyI am actually glad to see the QT spurring new development at the Clairmont intersection. That IGA was a dump and the adjoining strip mall needs a facelift to say the least. I hope the old Vol Repair site gets something new as well! I am concerned about traffic, but the QT meant getting a turn lane in front of the bank which was SO badly needed. Maybe McDonald's will mean other infrastructure improvements.

I totally agree, Lee-Ann. I'd love a longer school year and more vacation days throughout the year but an early release every Wednesday is a nightmare. It would be easier to find more all-day care for extra workdays and holidays than a half-day of care every week.

ReplyI would love a JoAnn's fabric store. Hancock is a total dump and has a horrible selection. There is not a good all-purpose fabric store ITP. (I love you, Intown Quilters, but you don't always have what I want.) At the very least make Hancock expand in size and selection.
I'd also l.o.v.e. a Bojangles there.

Until the LCA meeting, Sagamore/Leafmore didn't even know the North Druid Hills Study group existed! CAN might be a good group but they have never communicated with neighborhood citizens directly. At least LCA has been more public and transparent about what their plans are! I wish both groups would join together to create an ITP-only city.
