Postal Service Deadlines for Christmas

Time is running out to make sure packages and letters are in the mail before Christmas.

The Postal Service has some advice for people who want to make sure that their packages and letters will arrive at their destinations before Christmas.

If you are using First-Class Mail, Dec. 20 is the last recommended day for mailing to have the correspondence reach its destination before Dec. 24.

After Dec. 20, use Priority Mail, which is a two-day service for most of the country. After Dec. 22, guaranteed overnight Express Mail is recommended. Express Mail can be utilized as late as Christmas Eve at most post offices for Christmas Day delivery.

Make sure to use complete addresses--including directionals like NW, NE and so on, designations like St., Ave. and Blvd., plus apartment or suite numbers as needed--on correspondence.

For packages, make sure to use sturdy packaging, use old newspaper or other cushioning to prevent movement of objects during transit and include a return address.
