Crime Blotter, Oct. 7-13

A selection of crimes in our area reported to DeKalb County police.

Purse and money snatching at Northlake Mall
A woman had her purse containing a money bag from Premier Pain Management snatched in the parking lot of on Oct. 7, DeKalb County police said.

The robbery occurred around 1pm. A man called police to parking lot nearby, saying that he had a possible suspect with him, but once police arrived it became obvious the person was not the suspect.

The victim was deposited money at the bank location on Henderson Mill Road when she saw the suspect wearing a wig, staring at her as he talked on a cell phone. The victim, being friendly, said hello and the suspect returned the greeting. Then as the victim walked to her car, the man came up behind her, said “Gimme that [expletive] purse,” and ran toward the mall.

Another witness said a woman ran toward the at the mall as she removed a wig. This woman was described as wearing a white, long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and a ponytail under the wig. Both the wig and shirt were found behind one of the mall buildings.

The victim’s purse, a brown and beige Coach bag worth about $200 in itself, contained a brown money bag with $5,600 in it from Premier Pain Management as well as the victim’s driver’s license.

Burglary on Shetland Drive
A man on the 2700 block of Shetland Drive reported a burglary Oct. 7, police said.

The victim said between 9am and 3pm someone broke a small glass pane on the side kitchen door. A key was inserted in the lock on the inside, so the suspect used that to gain entry. While the victim and his wife always keep all the doors in the house closed, the victim found all the doors open. Pieces of sterling silver jewelry worth $150 were missing from the master bedroom.

Burglary on Willivee Drive
A woman on the 800 block of Willivee Drive was burglarized Oct. 7, police said.

The victim said between 7:30am and 2pm, someone broke into her house by forcing open the kitchen window. The suspect then climbed in through the kitchen window, causing items to fall into her sink. Like the burglarized family on Shetland Drive, the victim said she keeps all the doors in her house closed, but they were opened.

Two glass jars containing various coins of an unknown amount were stolen from the master bedroom. The suspect left through the back door, which was locked when the woman left her house that morning.

Robbery in the Citgo parking lot
A man was punched and had $90 taken from him in the parking lot of the Citgo at 3107 Buford Highway on Oct. 10, police said.

At about 10 pm, police arrived at a nearby apartment complex to talk to the victim, a resident there. He went to the Citgo and was walking out of the store when he saw a man standing beside a blue Hyundai SUV parked near the pumps. As the victim walked by the car, the suspect punched him in the face at least three times and took $90 in cash out of the victim’s hand as he attempted to put the money safely in his wallet. The suspect then got into the car and exited onto Buford Highway. The Citgo’s security cameras were not working at the time.

The first suspect, the puncher, was described as a black male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches and 140 pounds with short black hair and a scruffy beard, wearing a black T-shirt and khaki shorts.

The second suspect, the driver, is described as a white male in his early 20s, about 6 feet and 150 pounds with short light brown hair, wearing a light blue shirt.

Gunshot at Phillips 66
A man fired a round of gunshots at a black SUV in the parking lot of the Phillips 66 gas station at 2929 Lawrenceville Highway on Oct. 13, police said.

At about 1am, a woman inside the station seemed upset about something. An unknown man who is believed to be associated with the woman came into the store then walked back outside, took out a black handgun and shot a round of bullets at a black SUV, then fled across the street towards the Super 8 motel.

The woman told police she was in the station when an unknown black man began to harass her, though he eventually left, getting into a black SUV. She said she knew nothing about the shooter, but was in the store when the shots were fired.

The gas station cashier said that the SUV’s driver, possibly the man who had been harassing the woman, gave her a piece of paper. It was a Family Dollar receipt with a name and phone number written on the back.

The shooter was wearing a black jacket or shirt at the time.
